Don't break the install: update the install document - by Mark McFarlane     6/18/2003

The new ASP.NET forum will bring more traffic and downloads.  We also have other ideas to increase visibility, like a section in the "Source Projects" part of asp.net.

However, too much traffic too early can hurt Rainbow, so we need to go
slowly and methodically.

The major complaint I get is that Rainbow is too difficult, or impossible to install.  I am receiving new private emails every day from users that cannot get the system working (one disadvantage of listing my email in the install document).

One of the reasons this happens is because people change the source code
without updating the install document.

The change to Windows Authentication went unnoticed for several months.  The most recent changes for the ASP.NET v1.1 validateRequest= mod and the required path for Language.dll as a part of Esperantus also caused many people problems.

PLEASE, please, please if you do anything that changes the installation process send me an email, or better yet update the installation document yourself.

The installation document can be viewed here
Your modified version of the install document can be uploaded here

If you edit and save the install document, save it to the same filename so the link on the download page does not break.  Also, please keep your own backups in case something goes wrong :)
